James Cubie grew up in Washington, D.C., on Capitol Hill. Some of his extracurricular activities included skateboarding, soccer, basketball and track. He attended the College of Wooster in Ohio, and double-majored in religion and philosophy. His Master of Divinity Degree is from Union Seminary in New York, where he also received a Master of Arts degree.
James began doctoral studies in systematic theology at Princeton Seminary. He said that while he enjoyed the academic challenge of the program, he felt something was missing and that working in a church was where he felt called to be. James is now a candidate for ordination in PCUSA.
He has worked as an AmeriCorps VISTA member in New York City, at Bradley Hills Presbyterian as an Interim Director of Education and at Takoma Park Presbyterian as a Youth Minister. He was most recently at Providence Presbyterian Church in Fairfax as Director of Children’s Ministries and Facilities Manager. He is also a member of the Company of Teachers of the Reformed Institute of Metropolitan Washington. James and his wife, Tara, have a 7-year-old daughter, Lina.
“I am honored and humbled to be invited to serve among God's people at Leesburg Presbyterian,” James said. “I look forward to repaying the trust placed in me, and to live, worship, and rejoice with you as we look to the future that God has in store.”
