The role of the Mission & Witness Committee is to lead the congregation in its support of mission projects in the United States and throughout the world; to encourage peacemaking and ecumenical activities; and to address social needs in the community.

If you have an interest in local and international issues and mission work, consider joining the Mission & Witness committee - we are always interested in new members.  We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every month in the church library from 7:00 - 9:00 PM.

The Mission & Witness committee supports local and international missions and also strives to witness the Word of our lord through our activities.  The Mission & Witness budget supports United Budgeted Mission Giving, National Capital Administrative Benevolence and the local Benevolence Fund which is used for emergency assistance at the pastor's discretion.  The committee will continue to assist in the collection of Special Offerings, which through the Presbytery supports many educational, peace oriented and caregiving services for people all over the world.  We endeavor to keep the congregation informed about service organizations in Loudoun County an volunteer opportunities in these established organizations.

On the local front, your 2006 Mission and Witness budget will support eight community based non-profit organizations:

Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter Christmas in April / Rebuilding Loudoun
Volunteers of America / Transitional Housing Loudoun Community Free Clinic
Fresh Air / Full Care Fund Interfaith Relief
Mother Net Loudoun Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers

Our Alternative Christmas Faire will give the congregation the opportunity in December to make donations in lieu of gifts to a variety of organizations and will likely include opportunities to contribute to victims of Hurricane Katrina's devastation through the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance fund.

Bill and Beth Rule, our international missionaries in Malawi, Africa are finishing out their three year assignment.  Beth has recently returned to Leesburg.  Bill will arrive later in November.  Your generous past pledges allowed us to support their work in Malawi.  We plan to assist the following international programs in 2006:

bulletIn Malawi, medical clinics and drug programs the Rules initiated and Leesburg Presbyterian Church helped to establish with previous donations
bulletIn Malawi, a pledge towards the purchase of a new generator to provide electricity for a village near Embangweni, also being supported by other Presbyterian churches.
bulletHeifer International, the organization that provides farm animals and training to hand selected, impoverished families worldwide, as well as in the USA.
